This page last updated December 2006. The harbour was the village focal point in each of the scattered fishing communities along the Moray Firth. They were mostly built in the second half of the 19th century to increase the safety for the fishermen & cater for the increase in size of their craft. Many then in turn were made redundant as the size of the fishing craft continued to grow. All were constructed to make the best use of the individual characteristics of their bit of coastline & subsequently all are unique.
