FIERCE GALE IN MORAY FIRTH
The sailboat BF 503 Brothers of Portessie (belonging to John "Jeckie" Smith 161 Portessie) made an endeavour to reach Lossiemouth harbour in the storm, & just as she was about to make an entrance, was caught by the heavy swell & driven behind the South Harbour, where she now lies a total wreck. Within a few minutes any number of helpers were at hand, & had the crew taken speedily off.
Another boat was about to make an entrance but when she saw the fate of the Brothers made for another port. A number of other boats could be seen making for safety in other quarters. The Brothers was prosecuting the cod fishing & owing to the dangerous position, she was abandoned without an article being saved.
